A funeral service celebrating the life of Mildred L. “Millie” Ryan, age 106, of Hebron, was held December 19, 2017, at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Reverend Bob Long officiating. Burial followed in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville.
Millie passed away on December 12, 2017 at Arlington Care Center.
She was born September 8, 1911, in Thornville, to the late Wesley and Olie (Starkey) Orr.
Mrs. Ryan was a graduate of Thornville High School, Class of 1930 and attended Capital University. She had resided in Columbus prior to moving to Licking County in 1971. Millie had worked for the Columbus Municipal Clerk of Courts; and then retired from the State of Ohio Auditors Office as a Deputy Auditor in the School and Library Division as an Examiner.
She was an active member with the Wahneta Chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star #242 where she had been Worthy Matron (1947), a dedicated member of White Shield Temple Pythian Sisters #156 serving as Most Excellent Chief (1949); and the Republican Club Executive Committee. Millie was also a charter member of the Republican Patriots Club, a life member of Republican Employees Retirees, Inc., past District Director of District #6 representing Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Pickaway and Union Counties; and Licking County P.E.R.I. She was also an active member of Thornville Methodist Church.
She enjoyed fishing, playing euchre and gardening.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth L. “Libby” Preist; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Ryan in 1975 whom she married May 6, 1941; a brother, Thomas Cooper; a brother-in-law, Luther E. Priest; and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ryan of Newark and Kathleen Cooper.
