Melvin R. Sims

A funeral service celebrating the life of Melvin R. Sims, formerly of Hebron, was held September 26, 2009, in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville. Burial followed in Kirkersville Cemetery. His Pastor, James Dennis, of the Newark Baptist Temple, officiated.

Melvin died September 23, 2009, at his sister’s residence in Heath. He was born February 7, 1927, in Blue Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, the son of the late Russell David and Mary (Boggess) Sims.

He worked for 34 years at Kaiser Aluminum in Heath, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Newark Baptist Temple.

He is survived by his sisters and brothers, Ida Synowski, of Baltimore, Md., James Sims, of Hebron, Roy (Lola) Sims, of Hebron, Juanita (Delbert) Hundley, of Spring Lake, N.C., Paul Sims, of White Sulphur Springs, W.V., and Laura (Alan) Brown, of Heath; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Sims, on June 9, 2006; his sister, Helen; and brothers, Elma, Bernard, Ralph and Rufus.
