A funeral service for Mary Lee (Handley) Arter, age 82, of Buckeye Lake, was held April 20, 2012, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Inurnment took place at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Arter passed away at her residence April 18, 2012. She was born March 4, 1930, in Evansville, Indiana to Jasper Owen “Jack” and Lillian Catherine (Miller- Mattingly) Handley.
Mary Lee worked for Western Electric for 25 years where she wired the back of switchboards. She enjoyed house boating, sailing and jet skiing and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret “Toni” Jerry Anthony; daughter-in-law, Jane Arter; two grandchildren, Adam Jay Arter and Garland (Melissa) Nott; three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Wesley and Dale (Amber) Nott; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Arter (1999); a son, J.C. Arter (2004); three brothers, Jack Handaly, Richard “Dick” Jerome and Robert “Bob” Joseph; and a infant sister, Mary Ellen.
