Mary Jane Barrett




A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary Jane Barrett, age 85, of Buckeye Lake, was held March 16, 2016, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Jacksontown Cemetery.

Mary was born August 9, 1930, in Newark, to the late Paul and Jeanette (Smith) Conklin. She passed away March 12, 2016, at her home.

Mary was a member of the Buckeye Lake Firebelles, the Buckeye Lake Eagles, was active with the Buckeye Lake Youth Association and had been a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved to shop and enjoyed knitting and cooking, and was known for her delicious cabbage rolls. Her family meant the world to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by two sons, John (Rose) Barrett of Rushville and Steve Barrett of McConnelsville; four daughters, Mary K. Campbell and Delores Thomas, both of Buckeye Lake, Rosie (Jerry) Ickes of Thornville and Annette (Max) Eltringham of Somerset; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Paul “Tink” (Suzie) Conklin of South Carolina; and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Barrett; by a brother, Walter “Sonny” Conklin; a grandson, Tracy Campbell; and a granddaughter, Misty Rae Thomas.
