A funeral service celebrating the life of Mark Stephen Burgess, age 61, of Thornville, was held September 21, 2015, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Bob Davidson officiating. Military Honors were conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, near Corning.
Mark passed away September 16, 2015, at his home. He was born November 24, 1953, in Zanesville, to Joseph F. Burgess, Sr. and the late Wilma R. (Mount) Burgess.
Mark was a six year veteran of the U.S. Air Force holding the rank of Staff Sgt. He was a KC-135 Crew Chief in the refueling wing assigned to several SAC bases around the country. After the Air Force, Mark served several years in the Ohio Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves. He worked as a lead technician for Rockwell International, McDonnell-Douglas and later Atlantic Coast Airlines. Mark also enjoyed a passion for motorcycles since the age of 14.
He is survived by his father, Joseph F. Burgess, Sr., of Newark; special companion of 16 years, Arlene Weissman; a daughter, Amy; several grandchildren; a brother, Jeffrey W. (Sondra) Burgess of KY; a sister, Debi (Mike) Richards of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma (Mount) Burgess; and a brother, Joseph F. Burgess, Jr.
