Marie Foster





Marie Foster, 94, of Thornville, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at her residence.

Marie was born August 13, 1915, in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late Samuel and Laura Compton Warren.

She was a member of Oakthorpe Church and had lived in the Perry-Fairfield County area most of her life. Marie worked (1965-1978) and retired from Sheridan High School and had worked at Murphy’s and Barr’s nursing homes in Rushville. Marie was very unselfish, taking care of relatives and friends, and above all her husband, Roland. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy.

Surviving are her children, Dean (Marilyn) Foster of Lancaster, Patricia (William) Cassley of Lancaster, Elaine Hardwick of Baltimore, and Chris (Larry) Rhodes of Somerset; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fosnaugh of Springfield and Gladys Foster of Logan; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Foster of Thornville; and special friends, Margaret Winegardner and Dorothy Miller.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Roland Foster, whom she married July 27, 1935, and who died August 24, 2009; one son, Robert Foster (2004); a granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Moore (1992); four brothers; three sisters; and a special friend, Roger Winegardner.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the BOPE-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME in Somerset and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Oakthorpe Church with Tom Tiller and the Rev. Gerald Mershiner officiating. Burial will be in Oakthorpe Cemetery.
