Margaret L. Messerly Welker, 83 of Baltimore, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Baltimore United Methodist Church, VFW Post 3761 Ladies Auxiliary, and sold Avon for 30 years.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Helen) Messerly of Lancaster, Tim (Chong) Messerly of Tacoma, Washington, David Messerly of South Carolina, and Denny Messerly of Baltimore; daughter, Kay (Bob) Eby of Lancaster; step-children, Jan (Steve) Thompson of Lancaster, and Rev. Jon R. (Patti) Welker of Fulton, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Juanita) Gobel, Jim Gobel all of Lancaster, and Ronnie (Anna) Gobel of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse Lyle Messerly and John Welker; parents, Byron and Gladys Gobel; grandson, Jared Johnson; brother, Merrill Gobel; sister-inlaw, Opal Wallis; and cousin, Ann Welker. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Baltimore, with Rev. Branson Hawkes and Pastor Michael Herbert officiating. Burial to follow in Basil Cemetery, Baltimore. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 following the services.
