Local candidates gearing up for Nov. 3 election

LAKE AREA- November seems far away, but candidates for municipal offices, school boards and township trustee are already gearing up for the November 3 election.

The first step is to circulate a petition among registered voters to get placed on the ballot. Petitions must be filed with the county boards of elections by 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 20.

Both Licking and Perry counties list the prospective candidates that have taken out a petition. Fairfield County does not.

Fairfield County Board of Elections Clerk Regina Gottliebson said her office doesn’t record who takes out petitions, only who returns them to the board of elections. “When completed candidate petitions are received in our office, we then document the positions and names of those whom have filed,” she said.

The Licking County list is current as of July 2 and the Perry County list is current as of July 6. Some prospective candidates may decide not to file a petition, while others will take out a petition in the coming days.
