Linda E. (Thompson) Sickles




A funeral service for Linda E. (Thompson) Sickles, age 63 of Glenford, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor M. W. Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.

Mrs. Sickles passed away Friday, December 30, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 29, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, to the late Tennyson F. and Flossie (Harris) Thompson.

Mrs. Sickles was a 1966 graduate of Sheridan High School, attended Park College and the American School of Hair Design. She received her Ohio Cosmetology license in Managing Manicurist. She is survived by her best friend and lover of 41 years, Glenn R. Sickles.

Mrs. Sickles began her career working at the Newark Air Force Base from 1966 to 1986 and then took an overseas assignment in England at the RAF Kimble from 1986 to 1988. Upon her return from England, she managed the civilian personnel office at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base from 1988 until the base closed in 1994. Linda retired in 1994.

In January 1996, she became owner and operator of Sunset Tanning and Nail Care located on Buckeye Lake until 2002. She and her husband, Glenn, spent time in Florida during the winter months. She began working for the Newark Home Depot from February 2006 until May 2008, where she gained many friends. In May 2008, Linda was given the opportunity to accept a position at the Defense Logistics Agency in Columbus. There too, she also gained loyal friends and coworkers that stood beside her till the end of her journey on earth. Linda was very devoted as a caregiver for her parents and her Aunt Rosie during their illness.

In addition to her husband; she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kristy Sickles of Bladensburg, Glenn “Ed” and Nichole (Mobley) Sickles and Chris Sickles, all of Glenford; grandchildren, Melinda Sickles, Abigail Sickles, Destiny Spears, Hunter Spears, Erica Sickles, Tiffany Mobley, Michael Mobley, Katrisha Sickles, Taylor Sickles, Autumn Sickles and Cheyenne Fulk; and greatgrandchildren, Carter Allen Thorp and Skyla Dawn Thorp.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving son, Richard “Scott” Sickles in 2006.
