Thank you for your kind words about The Beacon. We’ll miss the print edition too, but we could no longer afford it.
The last two weeks have seemed a bit surreal as we break away from the routine of the last 22 years. Many of us still like to hold a paper or book in our hands. But that physical paper can also be very limiting. If something happens after Wednesday evening, we would have to wait until the next week to get it to you. Sometimes that was too late for you to react. Our physical paper also had to be delivered, putting us at the mercy of a very poor delivery contractor. Many of you have complained for years about getting The Beacon too late for many events or not at all.
We won’t have those obstacles once we get to our new on-line edition. Right now we are trying to fit the new Beacon onto our 10-year-old website design. Please bear with us as we sort how out how we move to an every other week full publication until April or May and how we continue to update classified ads, our business directory, obituaries and Things to Do weekly.
We expect our new website will be done by mid-March, hopefully earlier. We’ll be able to offer FREE full-color to all advertisers and more visibility to them. Please remember, they are paying for your newspaper.
We haven’t forgotten our loyal readers. You will be able to sign up for email notification for every publication update and any new story whenever it goes live. Breaking news won’t have to wait until the next paper. We’ll be able to use more photos and even videos. We’ll be able to add polls and other interactive features.
Our new website is being designed to be very smart phone and tablet compatible. You will be able to check out a new story on your phone. We’re excited about the future and hope you are too. One thing won’t change – that’s our commitment to keep you informed on what’s important in the Buckeye Lake area. Bookmark www.buckeyelakebeacon.net.
