Lester R. Anspach

Lester R. Anspach, 90, of Thornville, went to be with the Lord and his beloved Mary on June 16, 2014, at Autumn Healthcare of Thornville. He was born on July 23, 1923, in Thornville, son of the late Ray and Attie (Stevens) Anspach. He was a lifetime member of the Thornville United Methodist Church, a past church historian, and very active in the church.

Lester was a ‘work-a-holic’ and always kept very busy. He worked as a lab technician at the Pure Oil in Heath. Upon its closing, he went to work at DCSC in Columbus from where he retired. He was also a part-time custodian at Thornville Elementary and Dawes Arboretum. His favorite job was driving around Thornville and checking on his village. In an effort to keep his village beautiful, he was constantly picking up trash. In his opinion, Thornville was the “perfect village.” He loved history and kept memorabilia important to Thornville history which he later donated to the Perry County Historical Society. He also loved to write and sent many Letters to the Editor to local newspapers. He attended Thornville High School and graduated in 1941. Lester proudly served his country with the Army in WWII.

Lester married Mary Elizabeth Foster on July 17, 1947. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2011. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickey and Bruce Dupler of Mt. Perry and Ruth and Lynn Carpenter of Grove City. Lester was very proud of his three grandsons and their wives: Lance and Kelly Dupler of Mt. Perry Troy and Jenny Dupler of Thornville and Bo and Molly Dupler of New Lexington. Another great joy were his five great-grandkids: Connor, Dylan, Abby, Caroline, and Macauley Dupler. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Herman Foster of Pleasantville and James Dennison of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lester was preceded in death by his brother, Harry William; and a daughter, Melanie, who died at birth.

A funeral service, celebrating Lester’s life, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in the Thornville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeremy Shank officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.

Friends may call at the church, one hour prior to service from 10 to 11 a.m.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of the dedicated staff at Autumn Healthcare in Thornville. Lester loved “his girls” who took care of him and they all loved him. Thanks also to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Please make memorial contributions in Lester’s name to the Thornville United Methodist Church or the Perry County Historical

Society, where his love of Thornville lives on.

Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, Thornville, is honored to care for the Anspach Family.
