Leanna “Mom” Sears, age 67, of Kirkersville, passed away February 5, 2015,, at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.
She was born December 11, 1947, in Columbus, to John P. and Gail L. (Myers) Wagstaff.
Leanna owned and operated the Village Tavern in Kirkersville for over 30 years. As a local restaurant owner, you could expect Leanna to be at the tavern preparing her specialty breakfasts that included sausage gravy and biscuits. Sadly, Leanna recently had to close the business in 2015 due to her failing health.
Since the day the Village Tavern opened its doors for business on East Main Street in Kirkersville, it quickly became a fixture within the community. Leanna always could be counted on to help others in need and will be sadly missed by her many patrons, friends and her loving family.
Leanna is survived by her son, Stephen (Chasity Riggs) Sears of St. Louisville; a sister, Starla Piburn of Oregon; and two grandchildren, Steven G. Sears and Aliya Sears of St. Louisville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Arnetta DeMatteo (2014).
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Leanna’s life will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, February 27, at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
Memorial contributions may be made in Leanna’s name to Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 116 North 22nd Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
