Larry Grant Remmert, 67, of Somerset, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. He was born January 27, 1942, in Bulger, PA, the son of the late Warren and Alberta Remmert.
Larry attended Union High School in Burgettstown, PA, and Muskingum College where he received his bachelor’s degree. He obtained his Master’s degree from Xavier University in Educational Administration. He retired from Northern Local Schools in 1990 where he was a revered teacher, coach and administrator. Larry was the first wrestling coach at Sheridan High School. He coached for 16 years for the Generals. He also started the wrestling program at Mount Vernon High School in 1969 and 1970. Larry returned to Sheridan to finish his coaching career as varsity wrestling coach and assistant football coach. He was inducted into the Sheridan Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 for his coaching accolades. He was also a member of Mount Perry Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Larry loved dogs, hunting, the Steelers, and family get-togethers. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren in any activity. Larry also volunteered rebuilding houses for Hurricane Katrina victims.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda (Dupler) Remmert; two children, Lisa (Jeff) Forgrave and Lincoln (Tiffany) Remmert; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gayle (Jim) Tintle and Faye (Al) Wolfkill; a father-in-law, who was like a dad to him, Melvin Dupler; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce (Vickey) Dupler; and many nieces and nephews. Pap, as he was known to his four grandchildren, loved to tell jokes and sit around the campfire. Cort (17) and Ali (16) Forgrave and Bailey (8) and Landon (7) Remmert will sadly miss their “Pap”.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his mother-in-law, June (Comer) Dupler; and a brother-in-law, Craig Dupler.
