HEBRON – Lakewood School District is hosting its second “Let’s Talk…” community forum at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 11, in the high school auditorium. The forum will also be live streamed on Facebook.
This is an excellent opportunity for residents to ask questions about the $39.8 million bond issue on the May 7 ballot to replace the now 104-year old Hebron Elementary School and complete some critical repairs at the middle and high schools. Voters rejected the bond issue on its first try last November by a 3483 to 2454 vote. Unfortunately, raising interest rates have pushed the bond issue’s tax rate or millage from 5.1 mills last November to an estimated 5.4 mills in May.
Last November’s rejection will cost property taxpayers more money. Last November’s estimated 5.1 mills would have cost property owners an additional $178.50 a year for every $100,000 of their home’s value. The estimated 5.4 mills for May will cost property owners an additional $189.00 a year for every $100,000 of their home’s value.
