John Wallace Gillogly

John Wallace Gillogly, 72, of Thornville, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2013, in Seattle, Washington. He was born on August 2, 1940, in Pennsville, Ohio, to the late Wallace and Leona (Rowland) Gillogly. Having been raised in Logan, Ohio, John graduated from Logan High School with the Class of 1958. He attended The Ohio State University and was a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking and the Ohio School for Loan Officers.

John had a long career spanning 30 years in the banking industry in both Hocking and Perry Counties. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing, developing and establishing the Diamond Savings and Loan Bank in Logan. He also operated a very large farm and raised cattle on property in Hocking County.

An innovator and visionary at heart, John designed and built “Coops Corner”, a convenience store in Thornville. As the years passed, this establishment became more than a fuel service station: it became a gathering place for many in the community. For this, John was most proud.

In addition to his other accomplishments, John also served for six years with the Ohio National Guard. Most recently, in 2012 he was given the honor of being the Grand Marshall for the Thornville Independence Day Parade. John enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie, the beach at Puerto Rico, gardening, boating, traveling, but most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Judge Luann Cooperrider, whom he married on May 4, 1991; his son, Cooper John Gillogly, whom John said, “made his life complete;” his five girls, Kathy Ricketts, Paige Gillogly, Jacqi (Brian) Stobbs, Jennifer (Shayne) Dicken, and Johna (Ron) Walker; 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Odessa Wilkey, Martha Lisznyai, Mary Lou (John) Brimner, and Ruth Ann Roach; and his lifelong friend, Wendell Hull.

The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to services from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
