Jo Elaine George, 67, of Thornville, died at 9:22 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center with family at her side.
Jo was born April 26, 1942, in a car on the way to Newark Hospital, the daughter of the late Homer K and Bessie “Squibbie” Bissett Swinehart.
She was a 1960 graduate of Glenford High School; a member of Zion Reformed Church where she played the piano for 50 years, and had played for area churches since she was 12 years old. She was a 1978 graduate of COTC with an Associate Degree in nursing. She retired in 2000 from Good Samaritan Medical Center after 22 years of service as a labor and delivery nurse. Jo loved family, friends, and traveling.
Surviving is her husband of 50 years, Henry O. George of the home, whom she married June 25, 1959; five daughters, Bunni (David) Smith of Somerset, Sonya (Paul) Kyle of Glenford, Tonya (Jeff) Mitchell of Somerset, Dorra (James) Campbell of Washington Court House and Laura George of Thornville; and eight grandchildren, Larissa and Alex Smith, Zachary and Joshua Kyle, Olivia and Mason Mitchell and Tamela and Jessica Campbell.
Services were held October 28, 2009, at Zion United Church of Christ, 8000 High Point Rd., Thornville, with Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
