Jimmy Lewis Riggs




A funeral service for Jimmy Lewis Riggs was held February 3, 2015, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Darryl Beckett officating.

Mr. Riggs, 77, of Thornville, passed away January 31, 2015, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center in Newark. He was born September 21, 1937, in Middleport, Ohio, a son of the late Lewis Herbert and Evelyn Louis (Walburn) Riggs.

While a student at Crooksville High School, he played football and was a lifelong OSU and Cleveland Browns football fan. During high school, Mr. Riggs operated a shoe shine shop. In the mid 1960’s, he retired from the Roper Company and then operated a successful small business and was known as “Mr. Fix It”. For many years he enjoyed bowling on leagues and the outdoors, especially camping and boating. His interests also included woodworking, old fashioned country music and the music of Elvis Presley. Jimmy was a dedicated loyal member and one of the founders of Buckeye Lake Moose Lodge 2434. Positions he had held include Higher Degree Moose Legion and Legion Representative for many years.

Surviving is his wife, Nadine (Cannon) Brooks Riggs; daughters, Mindy (Mike) Taggart of Mansfield, Texas, Beth Riggs of Newark, Dena (Mark) Walsh of Heath; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Renner (Martin Smith) of Roseville, Brenda (Jerry) Baughman of Nashport; many nieces and nephews; and good friend, Carl White. An infant daughter, Susanne René Riggs, preceded him in death.
