Jeanne M. Pence, 94, died October 26, 2017, at Lanfair Nursing Care. She was born on January 17, 1923, to the late Leslie and Dorothea Hufford. Jeanne graduated in 1940 from Pleasantville High School. She retired from Nationwide Insurance after 35 years, 18 of which she was a secretary to the president, John Fisher. She earned her Certified Professional Secretary certificate in 1986 and was Secretary of the Year in 1965 and 1972 of Secretaries International.
Jeanne loved quilting and sewing, and was a member of Lancaster Rose Quilters and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she was secretary for many years.
Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Jean (Ron) Alleman and Jan (Joe) Conrad; grandchildren, Allison Parker, Leslie (John) VanHorn, A.J. Conrad, Tammy Alleman, and Cindy (Rob) Martin; five great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Bobbie Hufford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Pence; and brothers, Leslie Hufford Jr., and Fredrick Hufford.
Funeral service was held October 31, 2017, at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Homes, Lancaster, with Cheryl Foulk officiating. Special thanks to Lanfair for the many years of caring for Jeanne.
