James W. “Jay” Lindsey




A Celebration of Life service for James W. “Jay” Lindsey, 70 of Hebron, will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Rd., Granville, with Pastor Dan Hill officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church directly after the funeral service. Burial will follow after the luncheon at Hebron Cemetery.

Jay was born in Providence, Kentucky, on September 14, 1940, to the late James R. and Cecelia (McIntosh) Lindsey. He passed away at his residence in Hebron on July 16, 2011.

Jay was a face boss for nearly 30 years with the Old Ben Coal Company in West Frankfort, IL. He also owned and operated the Smoke House Bar-B-Que with his wife in West Frankfort. He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, as a federal egg inspector. He attended Spring Hills Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing with his sons, cooking, gardening and sharing spiritual fellowship with others. Most important in his life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather “Paba” and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Rose (Peters) Lindsey, whom he married on October 4, 1978; children, Traci (Charles) McElyea, JoAnn Lindsey, James “Jay” Lindsey, Michael (Suzanne) Peters and Jeffrey Lindsey; sister, Mary Schipper; grandchildren, Shannon, Jacob, Lindsey, Jamie, Cecelia, Virginia, Mackenzie, Brady, Kaysee, Brandon, Jackie, Jessica, Justin and Payton; four great grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
