A funeral service for James Louis Dawson, 88, of Thornville, was held October 6, 2018, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Paul A. Reimer officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Jim passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the Kobacker House. He was born August 12, 1930, in Dresden, to the late Harold and Martha (Downs) Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a teacher in the Newark City Schools and retired after 41 years. He was a combat veteran in the U.S. Marines serving in the Korean Conflict. He also served in the Ohio Army National Guard where he retired as a Staff Sergeant. He had served as Pastor at Linville Christian Union and Texas Christian Union Churches and attended Bible Baptist Church.
He is survived by five children, Kerry (Melissa) Dawson of Marysville, Curtis (Raye Anne) Dawson of Houston, Mark (Debbie) Dawson of Houston, Carol (Jon) Field of Thornville, and Matthew (Ellen) Dawson of Newark; nine grandchildren, Jason (Kerri) Ludwig of Marietta, Teresa Thompson of Houston, James (Charlotte) Dawson of Houston, Sandra (Hector) Perez of Houston, James (Tara) Field of Cincinnati, Jonathon Field of Columbus, Erin (Chad) Cable of Newark, Zach Dawson of Columbus, and Allie Dawson of Newark; 12 great grandchildren, Jaelyn, Jimmy, Kayla, Ashley, Jacob, Caroline, Emily, Paige, Nora, Ethan, Leah, and Lane; three brothers, Paul (Dona) Dawson of Detroit, Glenn (Judith) Dawson of New Jersey, and Max (Brenda) Dawson of Kansas; and brother-in-law, James (Nancy) Weimer of Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Dawson; and two brothers, Joe and Clint Dawson.
