A funeral service celebrating the life of Jackie E. Gaib, age 91, of Newark, formerly of Thornville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Thornville Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service with Father Bill Hritsko officiating. Burial will take place in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Thornport Amvets Post 51. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, at the funeral home, 56 South Main Street in Thornville.
Jackie was born May 24, 1927, in Columbus, to the late John E. and Eva E. (Webb) Gaib. He passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Riverside Hospital.
Jackie was a veteran of the United States Navy and faithfully served his country during World War II. He retired from Nabisco where he had been a delivery driver. Jackie enjoyed boating, spending time at Buckeye Lake and his winter stays in Florida. He also enjoyed playing the organ. Jackie was a life member of the Thornport Amvets Post 51, the Buckeye Lake VFW and the Moose Lodge #2308 in Dunnellan, Florida and held the Fellowship degree. He was a former member of the Columbus Moose Lodge #11 where he participated in the drill team.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (James) Schrider and Connie Gaib (Poul Vamby); two grandchildren, J.J. (Melinda) Richards and Kevin Richards; four great-grandchildren, Selena, Alyssia, Caroline and Todd; great-great-granddaughter, Bella; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Gaib, on March 27, 2013; and by a sister, Doris Van Fossen.
