Hugh Clifford “Cliff” Clements

Hugh Clifford “Cliff” Clements, Jr., age 68, of Thornville, OH, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on June 18, 1941 in New Castle, PA to Hugh Clifford and Ethel (Stewart) Clements, Sr.

Cliff was a member of the Savannah United Methodist Church of New Castle, PA. A 1959 graduate of Shenango High School in New Castle, PA. he served in US Navy as a nuclear submarine missile technician from 1959 to 1966. He retired from Rockwell International. Cliff enjoyed crafting reproductions of Fine Renaissance Lutes and furniture; a member of the Guild of American Luthiers; Amateur Archeologists of Native American Culture and Artifacts; served as president of the American Artifacts Collectors Association, and was a member and actor of the New Castle Playhouse. Cliff was also an avid fisherman and naturalist.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, LaVonne Lee (Glenn) Clements; son, Donald Scott (Doreen Vanunu) Clements of Columbus, OH; daughter, Elizabeth “Drissy” Gail (Shaun M.) Clements-Marlo of Thornville, OH; children of a previous marriage to Sandra Young; sons, Hugh C. (Diane) Clements, III of New Castle, PA and Miles (Frank) Clements of FL; daughter, Sharon E. Clements of FL; mother, Ethel Clements of Dothan, AL; brother, Donald Clements and sister, Lois Stevenson both of Dothan, AL; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Clifford Clements, Sr.; son, Samuel Leroy Clements; and sister, Sara Jane DeWitt.

Services were held on Dec. 30, 2009 at the Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, 56 S. Main St., Thornville, with Reverend Thomas Stewart officiating. Burial followed in the Hebron Cemetery, Hebron, OH.
