A memorial service for Howard H. Siegel, age 91, of Newark, formerly of Harbor Hills, will be held at 2:00 pm. on Thursday, April 21, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Brother Phil Coblentz officiating.
Howard passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Arlington Care Center. He was born August 20, 1919, in Newark, to the late Carl T. and Florence P. (Jackson) Siegel.
Howard graduated from Newark High School in 1937 where he played on the 1936 State Championship basketball team. Following high school, Howard served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from May 1941-February 1946. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948.
Howard Siegel and Joy Cann were married December 4, 1943, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Howard and Joy owned and operated Merchant Motors, a Chrysler Corporation dealership, for many years. They also owned and operated the National Car Rental franchise in Heath. Howard later sold replacement windows through his company, Windowspan.
He is survived by two sons, Steve Siegel of Cincinnati and Ned (Kathi) Siegel of Newark; five grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; nephew, Jack (Molly) Baker and family; niece, Susan (Jim) Warren and family, all of Lexington, Kentucky; and a cousin, Paige (Phil) Szajnuk of Overland Park, Kansas.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jean (Siegel) Baker.
Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at the funeral home, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
