Homer Aurand Rentz

Captain Homer Aurand Rentz, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret), died Monday, April 12, 2010, at his residence. He was born September 27, 1929, in Toledo. He was

preceded in death by his wife, Lillian in 2003 after 51 years of marriage; father, Homer Sr., in 1930; mother, Edith Johnson- Rentz-Minder in 1991; and stepfather, Harold Minder in 1972. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Emily) of Reynoldsburg, twins Matt (Christie) of Scenery Hill, PA and Max (Connie) of Newark; sister, Elaine Zellers of Delaware; grandchildren, Stacie, Jennifer, Daniel, Robert, Melissa, Jonathan and Amy; great-grandchildren, Megan, Mackenzie, Addisen, LenaClaire and Alexander; nieces and nephews; and special friend, 1st Sgt. Robert Polliard, USMC (Ret).

He graduated from Bethesda High School in 1947 and Franklin University with honors in 1975. He served over 20 years in USMC including Korea and Vietnam and later retired from Baxter Healthcare and Key Oldsmobile. Homer was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Baltimore, 50 year member of Hazen Lodge #251 F & AM in Bethesda, life member and past Commandant of Lancaster Leatherneck Detachment of the Marine Corps League, life member of the Military Officers Association of America, Chaplain of the Military Officers Club of Central Ohio, Charter member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s Devil Dog Club, life member of the Third Marine Division Association, member of the Marine Corps Mustang Association and Aladdin Temple Shrine.

No visiting hours will be observed. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore, with Rev. Michael Donnally officiating. The Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military rites at the cemetery following the service. Homer specifically requested no flowers. Contributions in his memory may be made to The Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43215. Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson- Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore.
