Herbert J. “Herb” Schilling




Herbert J. “Herb” Schilling, age 91, of Columbus, passed away June 15, 2012. He was born in Columbus, on January 18, 1921, to the late Otto J. and Katherine (Brenner) Schilling.

Herb was a 1940 graduate of Holy Rosary High School and retired from Ross Laboratories, a division of Abbott Labs, after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a 25-year member of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ohio and Florida, and a member of the Association of the Miraculous Medal. Herb was a 20-year resident of Beverly Hills, Florida, where he was involved with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the American Red Cross, the Beverly Hills Fishing Club, the Beverly Hills Surveillance Unit, the Citrus County Board of Elections, the Citrus County Barber Shop Quartet, and the Beverly Hills Civic Association. While in Florida, Herb was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where he was very involved with various church activities.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William Schilling; and siblings, Jay Schilling, Paul Schilling, Marie Lingo, and Richard Schilling. Survivors include his children, Stephen (Connie) Schilling, Karen (Brian) Joseph, Michael (Bobbie) Schilling, Daniel Schilling, Gregory (Terri) Schilling, Robert Schilling, and Jeffery (Rachael) Schilling; sister, Rita Kinch; sister in-law, Nancy Schilling; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was held June 18, 2012, at the Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne with Fr. Larry Nolan, celebrant.
