HEBRON Every Lakewood second grader – all students at Hebron Elementary School – received a free bike helmet last week.

Village of Hebron administrative assistant Christina Furbee obtained a grant from the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to purchase the bike helmets. Thanks to donations from Mayor Mike McFarland and council members, they were able to purchase a helmet for every second grader.

Hebron Police Lt. Rich Carson and Officer Dave Martin presented more than 120 helmets during seven classes on May 1. They were assisted by McFarland, Village Administrator Ralph Wise and council member Clifford Mason.

The presentation included watching a short video on bicycle safety plus safety tips from Carson and Martin.
