Giles Willoughby Long, 96, of Thornville, died Sunday October 3, 2010 at Licking Memorial- Hospital.
Giles was born March 6, 1914, near Thornville, the son of the late J. Herbert and Myrta Foucht Long. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville where he was a former choir director and choir member. Giles was a 1932 graduate of Thornville High School, and graduated in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Capital University.
He worked for Farris Tire Co. in Newark for 12 years and retired in 1969 after 21 years of service from Kaiser Aluminum in Newark where he was a Chief Physical Tester. Giles was a bus driver for Northern Local School District for seven years. He and Lucille farmed together for many years.
He is survived by a nephew, William Dean (Darlene) Hall; a niece, Rosalie (Roger) Hall Nehls; a niece-in-law, Ann Hall; seven great nieces and nephews; ten great-great nieces and nephews; Walser families; and a special friend, Julia Cooperrider.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estella Lucille Walser Long; his sister, Ila Long Hall; and a nephew, Dr. James Keith Hall.
Friends may call from 12:30- 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Jeff Morlock officiating. Burial will follow in Thornville Lutheran Reform Cemetery.
