A funeral service for Gerald P. “Gerry” Moore, age 69, of Hebron, was held December 8, 2010, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Kevin J. Roach and Rev. David Moody officiating. Burial followed in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Moore died Saturday, December 4, 2010, at his residence. He was born April 15, 1941, in Covington, Kentucky, to the late Philip and Marie (Lehr) Moore.
Gerry graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1959 and from Villa Madonna College in 1963 with a degree in Physics. He went to work for Bernay Labs in Yellow Springs, Ohio. In 1965, he took a position at Newark Air Force Base as an inertial engineer, advancing to supervisor before his retirement because of the closure. Upon the closure, he immediately began work with Rockwell, then Boeing, retiring once again from Boeing in 2003. Gerry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking, camping and traveling, especially on his motorcycle. He was very instrumental in teaching his sons, grandchildren, and nephews about the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Karen (Roach); children, Monica and Michelle Moore, Philip Moore, Cristi (David) Lanaghan, and Ken (Rhonda) Oliver; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Mary Jo) Moore; sisters-in-law, Goldie (Daniel) Ohde, Deborah (Brent) Watling and Joan Moore; brotherin law, Kevin (Cathy) Roach; mother-in-law, Anna Roach; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis (Harvey) Feebeck; brother, Edward Moore; and father-in-law, Rev. Kenneth E. Roach.
The family would especially like to thank Darby, Jan, and Gigi from Heartland Hospice, for the above and beyond the call of care they took of Gerry.
