Gearing up for the 4th of July

LAKE AREA– With a beautiful weekend in store for the upcoming July 4 weekend (according to accuweather.com Tuesday), local taverns and restaurants are gearing up for an incredibly busy few days. Some local establishments are even rolling out new features just in time for the celebration.

“It’s all we can do just keep beer in stock,” said Buckeye Lake Brewery owner Rich Hennosy. He said the brewery just added a new patio area in front of the brewery, complete with artificial grass. “We call it the Lawn,” he said.

Hennosy said the new patio will provide and excellent view of the BLASST fireworks Thursday night at 10 p.m., but with limited seating in the “Lawn,” those who want to take advantage of the spectacular view should arrive long before 10. “We’re using the fireworks for the kickoff for the patio area,” he said.

Down the street, assuming a late shipment of furniture arrives soon, Pizza Cottage Kevin Gorham said his place is opening a new outdoor patio with an awning in time for the July 4 weekend capable of seating 48 people at once. The patio will eventually host live music. Gorham is certain the Lake Area will be hopping. “Business will be there for everyone this weekend,” he said.

Papa Boo’s manager Noel Joyce agreed. “We’re all looking forward to a great weekend,” he said. Joyce said Papa Boo’s added car and truck parking areas to accommodate the weekend and there are plenty of boat slips for traffic from the lake.

Papa Boo’s will feature live music all weekend long, including HB-7 before and after the BLASST fireworks July 3, The Door Opening Kenzies will play Friday, July 4; both Dan n Randy and These Guys Live will play Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6, Hillbilly Deluxe is featured.

Joyce said all members of the wait staff have at least five years experience and they’re prepared for the weekend onslaught. “We’re happy; we’re ready to go,” he said.

“ The weather’s going to be beautiful,” said Copper Penny Lakeside and Sailor Joe’s owner Jeff Reed, who’s anticipating sellout crowds and plenty of live music at both locations. At the Copper Penny, Shawn Peck Solo is featured Thursday, July 3; Crossfire plays Friday, July 4; both Randy Goin and Sidewinders perform Saturday, July 6; and Ray Wheatley plays Sunday, July 7. “We always have our bucket special at the Penny,” said Reed.

Sailor Joe’s (formerly Capt’n Woody’s) features Moving to Boise Thursday, July 3; both Tom Hagley and The Alternative Nation Friday, July 4; both Mary’s Crooked Box and Mad Hatter Saturday, July 5; and Theo’s Loose Hinges Sunday, July 6.

For the first time, The Buckeye Lake Winery will feature a grill for the July 4 weekend. Its musical lineup features Johnny Thief and Cleptones Thursday, July 3; The Reid Coleman Band Friday, July 4; Sticks and Stones Saturday, July 5; and Chris Gill Sunday, July 6.
