Gary A. Gilgien, age 64, of Thornville, passed away peacefully his home on December 24, 2018, after a long battle with Amyloidosis. Funeral services were held December 29, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, with Pastor Orrey McFarland as celebrant. Burial followed at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.
Gary was born July 14, 1954, in Columbus, to the late Virginia (Harrell) Easterday Thompson and William Gilgien. He retired from Bob Sumerel Tire Company and Grace Lutheran Church as custodian, where he was a long time member. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working, camping and golf.
Gary is survived by his wife, Beth, of 44 years; children, Cheryl (Jason) Phillips, Jeremy (Julie Than) Gilgien, Bethany (Terry) Douglas and Rachel Gilgien; nine grandchildren, Aliyah Phillips; Deziree, Jeremy, Brayden, Jocelyn and Jenella Gilgien; Lynn, Hailey, and Matthew Douglas; sisters, Lenora West and Anna (Arrista) Spotts; brothers, Joe and Kevin Gilgien; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia (Harrell) Easterday Thompson, Charles Easterday; Bill (Betty) Gilgien; his in-laws, Earl and Sue Pennington; grandparents; one brother; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
