On Friday nights during football season, I enjoy watching the crowd, the cheerleaders, the band and the football team.
The field always looks good and the paint makes the field bright. For more than two decades, John White and Jack “Papa” Trenish have taken good care of the field. They along with Chris Stotts and Evan Bruckelmeyer mow the field, line the field, empty trash cans and pick up around the stadium.
John and Papa Trenish also take care of the equipment and the equipment room; they also wash the uniforms and take care of the locker room. These two men are the classic examples of the true meaning of volunteers.
Over the past twenty years they have seen many football coaches wear the purple and gold. It will be a sad day in the Port when John and Jack no longer walk the sidelines.
This is a great place to live and raise our kids.
