First Community Church collecting Operation Christmas Child gifts

BUCKEYE LAKE — Starting Monday, November 12, First Community Church in Buckeye Lake will be among 5,000 U.S. drop-off locations collecting shoebox gifts for children overseas during Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 12-19.

During the week, Buckeye Lake-area families, churches and groups are busy transforming empty shoeboxes into fun gifts of hope filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The Samaritan’s Purse project partners with local churches across the globe to deliver these tangible expressions of God’s love to children affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty and famine. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have ever received.
This year, Buckeye Lake-area residents hope to collect hundreds of shoebox gifts to contribute to the 2018 global goal of reaching 11 million children in need.

“We have an opportunity here in the Buckeye Lake area to make a life-changing impact on children across the world,” said volunteer Kellie Vaughn, whose family has been packing shoeboxes for many years. “These simple shoebox gifts remind children that God loves them, and they are not forgotten.”

First Community Church is located at 4381 Walnut Road (Ohio 79) in Buckeye Lake. Drop-off hours are: Monday, Nov. 12 thru Friday, Nov. 16 – 5 – 8 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 14 – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 18 – 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 19 – 9 a.m. – Noon.
