Wednesday’s first day of the new school year for Millersport Elementary was uneventful, just as Principal Kim Yenni likes it. “The first day went very smoothly,” she said. “Very few tears and lots of smiles.”
It wasn’t just that everything went well with the student body, Yenni said, but everything was smooth with bus transportation as well. “There were no surprises,” she said.
Yenni was pleased the brand new “grab and go” breakfast program also went well that morning. She said under the new program, students grab a breakfast when they enter the school in the morning and take the breakfast directly to their classrooms, affording them more class time. Yenni said students used to sit in gym for a while in the mornings, but the new grab and go program is an improvement for both education and safety.
“We’ve had lots of new students,” Yenni said. “We’re very happy to welcome them to Millersport Elementary School.” She said the school added a gym teacher this year, too.
A down side to the day, however, was a steady rain canceling students’ outdoor recess for the day. “That was the only disappointment,” Yenni said.
