F. Frederick “Fred” Wooster




F. Frederick “Fred” Wooster, age 94, of Baltimore, passed away December 20, 2010, after a prolonged illness.

Fred was born to the late George P. and Dora W. (Smurr) Wooster on December 17, 1916, in Basil. He graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1933. He married Irma Louise Emswiller on January 30, 1937. Fred and Irma lived on and farmed 82 acres on Basil Road, north of Baltimore. He worked for Weaver’s Hardware for 35 years where he was well known for his knowledge and advice. He was an avid gardener. He enjoyed fishing and being with his family and friends, and Irma’s cooking and baking. Fred had a faithful devotion to and regular attendance at St. Michael’s United Church of Christ. Fred was a founding member of the Fairfield County Fish & Game Club.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. (Howard) Slonaker of Baltimore; son, James O. (Rebecca) Wooster of Huron, OH; grandchildren, John H. Slonaker of Hagerstown, IN, Patricia (Todd) Slonaker Diener of Centerville, OH, Mathew J. (Angela) Wooster of Columbus, and Curtis E. (Jodi) Taylor of Bellevue, OH; great grandchildren, Kendall Morrow and Jake & Chase Taylor of Bellevue, OH; and sisters, Mayre D. Wooster Weaver of Baltimore and Mary C. Wooster Olvey of Louisville, KY.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Irma L. Wooster; his parents; and brothers, Chalmer, George, and Kenneth Wooster.

Funeral service was December 23, 2010, at St. Michael’s United Church of Christ, with Reverend Dale Ann Gray and Reverend Diane Berger officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore.
