Eugene “Gene” Barr

Eugene “Gene” Barr, 77, of Thornville, passed away April 9, 2013, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born on November 13, 1935, in Rockcastle, WV, to the late Milton and Rena (Davis) Barr. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran and a lifetime member of the AmVets Post 51, Thornport as well as Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville. He enjoyed boating, taking meticulous care of his yard, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; three children, Jeffrey (Tina) Barr, Kathy (Rick) Skillman, and Angela Gresh; two stepchildren, Mike (Dayna) Patrick and Troy Patrick; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Parsons; one brother, Dewey (Marcella) Barr; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Morrison, Lilly Morrison, and Ianthe Barnes; and three brothers, Ray, Charlie, and Julius Barr.

A funeral service, celebrating Gene’s life, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013, in the Grace Lutheran Church, Thornville, with Pastor David Zandt officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Glenford where full military rites will be conducted.

Friends may call at the Church on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
