Ernest Lee Owens





A funeral service celebrating the life of Ernest Lee Owens, 65, of Buckeye Lake, was held March 23, 2009, in the chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Demick as celebrant. Burial will follow in Virginia at a later date.

Ernest died suddenly Thursday, March 19, 2009, at home as a result of a garage fire. He was born June 11, 1943, in Haysi, Virginia, the son of the late Corbett Ernest and Vivian (Mullins) Owens. He was retired from the Caine Corp. in Hebron after 27 years of service. Formerly a coal miner, he enjoyed woodworking, caring for his lawn and has been described by his family as a perfectionist. He also enjoyed decorating his home with Christmas lights.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Verna, whom he married on May 4, 1968; his daughter, Angie; his brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Deborah) Owens of Buckeye Lake, Barry (Debra) Owens of Newark, Juanita Mullins of Buckeye Lake, and Brenda (Daniel) Mount of Buckeye Lake; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Jill, Jack, and Thomas Owens, Nayoma Ratliff and Neetleen Wallace.
