Empty Bowls Fight Hunger

BALTIMOR E – The 3rd Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser exceeded its $5,000 goal last Sunday. Donations were $5,100 at press-time.

Last year, the international grassroots effort to fight hunger locally raised $4,200 that was split between the Baltimore Food Pantry and the Liberty Township Community Chest.

Volunteers from seven Baltimore area churches – Baltimore UMC, Christ UMC, Faith Lutheran, New Zion UMC, NOW Church, St. Michaels UCC and Trinity UCC – fixed soup and desserts last Sunday from 4- 6 p.m. at the Baltimore VFW Post.

Guests could chose from seven different soups – one from each par ticipating church. A silent auction offered 67 donated items ranging from baked goods to gift cards and sports memorabilia. A handful of larger items were sold during a live auction.

Empty Bowls are now held around the world. Baltimore’s is the only lake-area Empty Bowl.
