Emma Lucille “Emma Lou” Murray




A funeral service celebrating the life of Emma Lucille “Emma Lou” Murray, age 81, of Jacksontown, was held August 15, 2016 at Jacksontown United Methodist Church, 9350 Jacksontown Road, with Pastor Bob Beyer and Pastor Carol Kirk officiating.

Emma Lou passed away August 11, 2017, at Chapel Grove Inn. She was born April 5, 1936, in Cambridge, to the late James E. and Wilma L. (Hayes) Johnson.

Emma Lou was a graduate of New Lexington High School. She retired as the secretary for the Lakewood Board of Education. She started with Lakewood in 1975 as a bus driver and spent a total of 30 years of service for the District.

Emma Lou was a member of Jacksontown United Methodist Church. She loved her children and family, enjoyed playing golf, going to grandchildren’s ballgames, and was an avid Ohio State and Bengal’s fan.

She is survived by her husband, David D. Murray; four children, Vicky (Jeff) Christiansen, Jacqueline (Rich) Cady, Sandra (John) Hernandez and Rob Miller; seven grandchildren, Chelsea (Justin) Francis, J.J. (Amber) Powers, Jessica Short, Justin Cady, Jonathon Herandez, Morgan Miller and Colton Miller; three great-grandchildren, Anika, Soren and Anton Francis; step-children, Kathy (Steve) Huffman, Chris Taylor, David “Bub” (Penny) Murray and Luann Humphrey; a sister, Patricia Ann Howerth; and a niece, Patsy Ramsey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepson in-law, Tom Humphrey.

Family burial will take place at the New Lexington Maple Wood Cemetery at a later date.

The Newark Chapel of Henderson Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
