Edwin C. Broekhoven Sr.

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Edwin C. Broekhoven Sr., 93, of Thornville, was held December 15, 2014, in the chapel of the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Thornville. Burial with full military honors followed at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Mary, who died February 4, 1999.

Edwin died December 10, 2014, in Newark, following a brief illness. He was born January 18, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Leo and Martha (Boski) Broekhoven, and was raised by his late uncle and aunt John & Loretta Broekhoven. He was a graduate of Columbus South High School, a former member of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Columbus, and retired after many years of service with the Jefferies Manufacturing Co in Columbus. He served honorably in the US Army, during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, dartball, bowling and carpentry projects. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He lived for his family. His favorite saying was: “I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in”. He is survived by his daughters, Manetha (David) Lyle and Michell (David) VanDyke Jr., of Thornville; daughters-in-law Margaret Broekhoven and Karen Wells; his grandchildren, Mary (Tom) Hannan, Patricia (Drew) Forgrave, Leslie (Andrew) Clouse, Allen (Megan) Lyle, Trey and Wyatt Van Dyke, Michael and Melissa Broekhoven; his nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Edwin Jr., and Mike Broekhoven; sister, Leona Mathias; and brother, Leo Broekhoven.
