Edward L. Ballenger, age 75, died June 8, 2015. He was the former owner of Reeb’s Restaurant, Columbus; Ballenger’s Seafood Restaurant, Ft Myers, FL; and the Ballenger House, Newark. Ed was a past president of Central Ohio Restaurant Association and Restaurateur of the Year in Florida. He was a past Commodore and 57 year-member of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club where he enjoyed sailboat racing and power boating. Ed was a 35-year member of the Masonic Lodge, member of Licking Valley Church of Christ and active in many civic associations. A former horseman and an avid NASCAR fan, Ed lived and loved life to the fullest!
Ed is survived by Sondra, his devoted and loving wife of 26 years; children, Shelley (Bob) Bishop and Edward Ballenger II, FL; step-children, Lisa Stotts, Shawn (Sherry) Dye, and Loren (Sheree) Dye, NJ; daughter-inlaw, Cheryl Dye; sisters, Susie (Marty) Headlee and June (Mike) Jacobs; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Lloyd Ballenger; and son, Charles Ballenger. Sondra would like to thank Pastor Gus Andrews of Licking Valley Church of Christ, Hospice of Licking County and her Home Instead caregivers for their concern and help during Ed’s illness.
Funeral service was held June 15, 2015, at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, Gahanna, with Pastor Gus Andrews officiating. Interment followed at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
