Here I sit huddled around the fire trying to stay warm and wondering where the next can of beans is coming from. I am also unemployed, broke and in debt. My Tea Party friends tell me it’s my own fault. I haven’t taken personal responsibility. I am just one of Mitt Romney’s 47% — a victim with a sense of entitlement. Where are the beans? Where are the Jobs? Well, the rich guys have all the beans (the richest 400 Americans have more wealth than the bottom 1,500,000) and they closed the factories and sent the jobs overseas where labor is cheap.. Actually, my wages in real $$ have declined over the past 30 years along with the wages of working and middle class Americans.
Right now I have $15,000 in credit card debt (I use Visa for my living expenses), my son has $75,000 in student loan debt (since the R’s arent interested in infrastructure, his engineering degreee won’t get hin a job), I have a $150,000 mortgage which is worth more than my house (it lost 30% of its value during the downturn) and a $50,000 hospital bill (my wife had cancer in 09, and when I lost my job, I lost my health insurance). If God had wanted us to be debt-free, he wouldn’t have given us the credit card, unaffordable college tuition, underwater home mortgages and unobtainable health insurance.
But what has all this to do with the sequester? After all , it’s only 2.4% of the federal budget; and, as all the Nobel Prize winning economists tell us , a $3.5 trillion federal budget is no different from a $50,000 household budget.– if you’re short of cash, you cut expenses. The Tea Party gets it, so I’m nominating them for the 2013 Nobel prize. The guys at the Beacon have adopted a common sense way of handling the 2% increase in their payroll tax: they drink water instead of coke and buy store brand beans instead of Bush’s national brand (the one with the talking dog on TV). The sequester, on the other hand would, suggest that they just stop paying the rent and the electric bill. So here I sit huddled around the fire trying to stay warm and wondering if the sequester isn’t just about the dumbest thing the U.S. congress has ever perpetrated on the American people.
