Dorse H. “Dode” Winegardner




Dorse H. “Dode” Winegardner, age 80, of Thornville, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Autumn at the Lake in Thornville. He was born on March 5, 1933, in Thornville to the late Herbert L. and Mable “Forest” (Taylor) Winegardner. Dode served in the US Army and was a member of the AMVETS Post 51 in Thornport. He was also a member of the Buckeye Lake V.F.W. and the United Church of Christ in Thornville. Dode retired from the Shelly Company after 42 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his brother, Carl Winegardner; sisters, Joan Gothard and Sharon (Millard) Chesser; step-daughter, Phyllis Brotherton; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora ‘Belle” (Copley) Winegardner; and his two brothers, Paul and Eugene Winegardner.

A funeral service, celebrating Dode’s life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, in the chapel of the Thornville home of Hoskinson-Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S. Main St., with Pastor Bryan Meadows officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
