Dorothy L. Ballenger, 91, of Zanesville, died July 20, 2017, following an extended illness. She was born August 3, 1925, in Lancaster, the daughter of Ralph and Annabelle (Yontz) Arnett.
She worked as a early childhood teacher and then as a nurse aide. She completed an Associates Degree in early childhood education from Ohio State University. After retirement, she enjoyed reading, camping, cooking, playing card and board games (especially scrabble), and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Martin “Sonny” Ballenger, whom she married on Aug 17, 1968; her daughters, Anna (Kenny) Brown and Catherine Geenter Martin; sisters, Phyllis and Nancy; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara; her brother, Ralph; her daughter, Cynthia; and her sons, Chet and Eddy.
Funeral services were held July 25, 2017, at the Thornville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will followed on July 26, 2017, in the Carroll Cemetery.
