Donald S. Hartman, 81, of Thornville went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 24, 2014, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born May 20, 1932, in Zanesville, to the late Samuel and Ida (Wolfe) Hartman and is survived by his wife of 15 years, Robin L. (Rolland) Hartman; his children, Donald S. (Susan) Hartman Jr., Sheryl (Keith) Ross; Sharon (Mitchell) Marczewski, Joshua (Rachel) Hartman, Adam (Alyson) Hartman, Rex (Diane) Sprankle, and Timothy (Eileen) Freeman; sister, Linda Mann; many grandchildren and great –grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Buster and cat, Tiger.
He is preceded in death by siblings, Rose, June and Gary.
Mr. Hartman served honorably in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France.
He was a tireless worker for God’s Kingdom as a pastor for over 50 years in numerous churches across Ohio, most recently, the founding of The Word Church in Newark. He was also a member of Anchor Bay Evangelistic Association.
His energy and stamina were boundless as he was also a fulltime security guard for the Bob Evans corporate headquarters for 15 years, and most recently at ECOT.
His varied interests included fishing and hunting, and he particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Calling hours are Friday, March 28, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark; and Saturday, March 29, 2014, from 10 – 11 a.m. at The Word Church, 113 Madison Ave., Newark, followed by his funeral. Pastor John Sensabaugh of Zanesville will be officiating with burial at Oak Hill Cemetary.
