Donald “Don” L. Tener, age 84 of Baltimore, died August 22, 2016, at McCaffertys Adult Care in Pleasantville. He was born on December 7, 1931, to the late Charles and Glendora Cooper Tener in Bloom Township, OH. He retired from Defense Construction Supply Center after 32 years. He served his nation in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Don was a member of the VFW Post #3761, Masonic Lodge 475 where he was a Master Mason in 1964; and was a Liberty Union-Thurston School Board Member from 1978- 1999 and a Fairfield County School Board member from 1996-2011. Don truly served his community well, especially with helping in the development of the Fairfield Career Center. Don achieved much and will be greatly missed by his family and the community.
He is survived by his children, Pastor Vera A. Welker, Charles M.(Brenda) Tener, and Daniel L. Tener; six grandchildren, Natasha, Jacob, Becky, Chelsea, Holly, Simon, and Abby; six great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Tener; sister-in-law, Margaret Tener; nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Connie Haynes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Anne Tener; brother, Kenneth Tener; daughter-in-law, Janet Tener; and son-in-law, Steven Welker.
A funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016, at the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, Baltimore, with Rev. Jill Dunlap officating. A committal service will follow the funeral at Maple Grove Cemetery in Baltimore with the Baltimore Veteran’s Burial Detail. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
