Deborah A. “Deb” Smith


A funeral service celebrating the life of Deborah A. “Deb” Smith, age 68, of Newark, was held February 20, 2020, at the Hebron Chapel of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial followed in Hebron Cemetery.
Deb was born November 5, 1951, in Newark, to the late James Thomas Collins, Sr. and the late Joanne (Meiers) Collins. She passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Deb was a 1970 graduate of Lakewood High School. She loved music and played a variety of instruments, including the guitar and drums, and was an excellent singer and entertainer. Deb was an amazing cook and one of the family favorites was her delicious spaghetti and meatballs. She loved her family and they all meant the world to her. Deb could light up a room just by walking into it. She cared deeply for people and was known to be extremely kindhearted and generous. She arranged multiple benefits to help others.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Rick Smith; children and grandchildren, Travis Cornett (deceased), Traci Cornett of Millersport, and her children, Stephanie Bowen, Abigail Allen and Camron Allen; Tiffany Cornett of Newark, and her children, Allen Scarberry, Trevor Scarberry, Lyric Martin, and Jayce, Olivia and Layla Smith; and Jessica Slone of Newark, and her children, D’Angelo Allen, Sirr’Issayk Richardson, William “Liam” Richardson, Jr., Lukas Richardson and Je’Siyah Richardson; great-grandson, Anakin Hall; “bonus kids,” Jason Smith of California, Donya Smith and Amy Smith, both of Newark, and Kristopher Smith of Tennessee; many other grandchildren; sister, Sandra Parks of Winchester, Kentucky, and her children, Amy Turner and Greg Bonner; brother, Michael W. (Tammy) Collins, Sr. of Newark, and their children, Michael W. Collins, Jr. and Justin Collins (deceased); brother, James T. “Jimmy” Collins, Sr. (deceased) and his children, Brandi Baker and Jamie Collins; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
