Cranberry Bog cleanup day scheduled





BUCKEYE LAKE – Volunteers, in cooperation with ODNR’s Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, are organizing a Cranberry Bog Clean-Up Day for Saturday, April 12.

Volunteers are needed to help with critical ecomanagement, including the removal of invasive plants from the island’s fragile meadows as well as spruce up the docks and repair the boardwalk. Interested volunteers are asked to sign up for one of two fourhour shifts – 9 a.m. to noon or 1-4 p.m.

Pastor Bob Byers and the Water’s Edge Community Center group will provide lunch for workers between noon and 1:45 p.m. at the center. Transportation to and from floating bog, equipment and refreshments will be provided. Exposure is to poison sumac is a possibility, but gloves and rakes will be provided to minimize contact. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately in work clothes such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants and closed shoes. For more information or to sign up call George O’Donnel at (740) 928-1274.
