A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Charlotte Ann Carpenter, 85, of Thornville, was held February 20, 2017, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Somerset, with Rev. Fr. Stephen Carmody as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Somerset.
Charlotte died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, in Lancaster, following an extended illness. She was born August 10, 1931, in Roseville, the daughter of the late Franklin E. and Vera V. (Hansen) Wood. She was a graduate of Roseville High School, and was an extraordinary mother and homemaker. Charlotte was an active member of the Thornville community: she quilted with the ladies at Grace Lutheran Church, was active in the Home Extension Club, baked many pies for the Holy Trinity Garden Party and was a member of the Thornville Fireman’s Auxiliary. She loved gardening and flowers, baking cinnamon rolls, pies and especially spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving family: her husband, James H. Carpenter, whom she married June 18, 1949; children, Tim (Marcia) Carpenter, Cathie (Dean) DeRolph, Chris (Jim) Foura, Cynthia (Jeff) Ritter, Betsy (John) Founds, Nancy (Tony) Landis, Jimmy (Carmen) Carpenter and Steve (Renee) Carpenter; 22 grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Tener.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105-1942.
