Cassie June Shaffer




Funeral services for Cassie June Shaffer, 70, of Thornville, were held at the Reed-Egan Funeral Home, December 21, 2009, with Chaplain Cliff Biggers officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date.

Mrs. Shaffer died at Arlington Nursing Home on Thursday, December 17, 2009. She was born in Lincoln County, West Virginia on June 5, 1939, to the late Clarence “Curly” and Grace (Clay) Watson.

Cassie and her husband, Alvin, were the former owners and operators of Streamline Wheel Alignment previously of Columbus. Cassie was retired from the Newark City Water Office where she worked for 22 years, and was awarded the key to the city from former Mayor Frank Stare for her many years of service. After her retirement, Cassie was one of the original employees of Cherry Valley Lodge where she worked in their banquet facilities.

Cassie was a very caring and sincere person who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother to her children, to whom she was greatly devoted. She would often help out on the family farm “Autumn Lane”.

Cassie, one of 12 children, is survived by her son and daughterin law, Alvin and Kerri Shaffer of Newark; her daughters and sonsin law, Sally Shaffer and Jim Parkinson of Thornville, and Suzanna and Timothy Dawson of Utica; her grandchildren, Aaron Shaffer, Tim Dawson Jr., Brandy Dawson, Alexandra Shaffer, Austin Shaffer, and Tyler Shaffer; her sisters, Betty Watson of Columbus, Mary Watson of Columbus, and Delores French of Grove City; her brothers, Sam, Thomas and Jake Watson of Branchland, West Virginia; her special friends, Kevin Rush of Upper Arlington, Kevin and Marty Cook of Newark, Ray Empson of Columbus; and special nephew, Ersel Elkins of Hamlin, West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Cassie is survived by her very caring doctors, Dr. Kret, Dr. Pacht, and Dr. Greathouse.

In addition to her parents, Cassie was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Shaffer in 1983; and five brothers and sisters.
