Carolyn Dee Stukey Iden

Carolyn Dee Stukey Iden, age 78, of Marysville, formerly of Newark, died August 30, 2014, at OhioHealth Hospice Kobacker House in Columbus with her children by her side.

A woman of deep Christian faith, perseverance and selflessness, she was a stronghold to her family and a dedicated encourager to her church and community. Carolyn will be long remembered as a good listener, her neighborliness and her compassion to others. She retired from Memorial Hospital of Union County where she was secretary for in-service education and public relations for many years. She was a longtime member of Marysville First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Emmaus community and weekly share group and Women in Missions. An integral participant in the church’s annual rummage sale, Carolyn always enjoyed being in charge of the used book section. She also assisted in the kitchen throughout the years for many church and community luncheons and banquets. She and her late husband, John, were loyal members of the church choir together. A talented alto, she also sang in many community cantatas and musical presentations, including the Union County Singsations and earlier in her life, with the “Iden Trio.” Carolyn was a volunteer and member of the auxiliary at Memorial Hospital of Union County and also devoted many hours to The Hope Center, Marysville Public Library and Personal Needs Pantry. For a number of years, she coordinated local monthly Alzheimer’s support group meetings. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed reading, book club and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sports events and music programs. A world traveler, she made trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Nova Scotia and Europe. Carolyn found solace frequently at her family’s lake home at Seneca Lake. She and her husband and their four children moved to Marysville from Newark in 1973 for Rockwell International. She grew up in Hebron, Ohio and graduated from Hebron High School. She enjoyed coordinating several high school class reunions. She was married shortly after high school and following her husband’s enlistment in the United States Navy, they moved to California.

Carolyn was born August 24, 1936, at her family’s home in Hebron to the late Chelsea and Lola Clectner Stukey. She was also predeceased in 1986 by her husband of 32 years, John Reel Iden, whom she married July 18, 1954 at the Hebron United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Doug (Christine) Iden of Delaware and Dena (Tom) Carroll, Damon (Wendy) Iden and Denise (Jerry) Branton, all of Marysville; nine grandchildren, April (Kevin “KG”) Green, Charise (Sean) Jones, Heather (Ben) Protheroe, Erin (Brandon) Morrison, Megan (Will) Mathes, Andrew and Alyssa Iden and Tyler and Jacob Branton; 10 great grandchildren, Paige and Brennan Helcher, Samantha and Austin Anderson, Aidan, Addison, Asher and Amelia Protheroe and Grady and Makenna Morrison; her brother, Richard (Joann) Stukey of Hebron; and many other relatives and loving friends, including Jan (Bob) Hendren of Newark.
